Are you eligible for a Tax refund?

Do you think you may have paid too much tax? Please use this link to find out more about how to apply for an income Tax refund  . You may be you interested to know that HMRC are also making repayments of tax to customers who overpaid tax for the years 2003-04 - 2007-08

Have you received a P800 for tax year 2011-2012?

From May 2012 HMRC have been sending out P800 tax calculations for the tax year 2011-12.

Most people pay the right amount of tax through Pay As You Earn (PAYE) during the tax year and there is nothing more for employers, employees or HMRC to do. Sometimes, however, some people may have paid too much or too little tax and in these cases a P800 will be sent out. You do not need to be concerned if you do not get a P800 Tax Calculation but if you do receive one please make sure you agree with the tax calculation information it contains. If you agree you don’t need to do anything just keep it safe, if you don't agree you can write to HMRC at the address shown on your calculation or Tel 0845 3000 627. More information can be found at Checking your P800 Tax Calculation

Employing someone coming to the UK from abroad?

The usual Pay As You Earn and National Insurance Contributions procedures would normally still apply when you employ someone coming to the UK from abroad but there are some exceptions.  To find out what these are and what you need to do should this apply to your business click here: PAYE for employees from abroad

No more plastic National Insurance cards:

HMRC has stopped sending out National Insurance number cards. Adults and young people approaching age 16 needing a National Insurance number will now be sent this on a notification letter.

If you are an employer you will need to bear this in mind when taking on a new employee. For more detailed information read here: new way to get National Insurance numbers
