North West Regional College


CLEAR HEADS WITH BIG IDEAS!

Students from North West Regional College gathered in the City Hotel Derry recently to take part in the event that saw local college students create Big Ideas that could improve their college in some way, and at the same time be a commercially viable and sustainable enterprise.

Over forty students took part in the event that saw creativity and innovation high on the agenda. Advantage NI engaged the students in interactive exercises to demonstrate the basic principles of creative and innovative thinking. Students were then given the opportunity to develop ideas on a practical level. The event culminated in students pitching their idea to win over the support of the judges that their idea is the best of the group.

A group of first year HND Media students stood out on the day after developing the winning ‘Big Idea!’ of opening an oxygen bar on campus. The idea is that students pay a minimal fee to use an oxygen tank that increases the level of oxygen circulating around the brain. This could be used to not only help students with stress relief and also clear the heads of students who may be suffering from a dreaded hangover!

STUDENTS FROM SOUTH EASTERN REGIONAL COLLEGE HAVE BIG IDEAS!

Students from South Eastern Regional College gathered in Lisburn Civic Centre recently to take part in the event that saw local college students create Big Ideas that could improve their college in some way and at the same time be a commercially viable and sustainable enterprise.

Over one hundred students took part in the event that saw creativity and innovation high on the agenda. Advantage NI engaged the students in interactive exercises to demonstrate the basic principles of creative and innovative thinking. Students were then given the opportunity to develop ideas on a practical level. The event culminated in students pitching their idea to win over the support of the judges that their idea is the best of the group.

There were three winning ideas on the day. The first was to create a college garden that could host seasonal events for occasions such as Halloween and Easter. The second was to establish a college credit union, making it easier for students to acquire credit as so many students find it difficult to be approved a loan. The third Big Idea was a ‘DIY apprenticeship scheme’ allowing students’ time out of college to carry out work for customers at a cheaper rate. This would be done under the supervision of a lecturer, enabling students to earn money and gain valuable experience.

INTERACTIVE BIG IDEAS AT SOUTHERN REGIONAL COLLEGE

Students from Southern Regional College gathered in the Canal Court, Newry recently to take part in the event that saw local college students create Big Ideas that could improve their college in some way and at the same time be a commercially viable and sustainable enterprise.

Sixty students took part in the event that saw creativity and innovation high on the agenda. Advantage NI engaged the students in interactive exercises to demonstrate the basic principles of creative and innovative thinking. Students were then given the opportunity to develop ideas on a practical level. The event culminated in students pitching their idea to win over the support of the judges that their idea is the best of the group.

College students from the Newry campus stood out on the day after developing the winning ‘Big Idea!’ of creating an interactive kiosk within the college that would provide college students with information on the college. The kiosk would include an ATM as well as a USB port to make life at college as relaxed as possible.

STUDENTS’ GENERATE ELECTRIC IDEAS IN OMAGH

Students from South West College gathered in the Silver Birch Hotel, Omagh recently to take part in the event that saw local college students create Big Ideas that could improve their college in some way and at the same time be a commercially viable and sustainable enterprise.

College students from Omagh campus stood out on the day after developing the winning ‘Big Idea!’ of designing an hourglass generator that would be placed in the college gym. The generator would utilise the energy of weight –lifters, who would lift weights in order to move ball burns that would create electricity for use within the college.

IT’S A DATE WITH BIG IDEAS!

Students from Belfast Metropolitan College gathered in the Grand Opera House recently to take part in the event that saw local college students create Big Ideas that could improve their college in some way, and at the same time be a commercially viable and sustainable enterprise.

Sixty students took part in the event that saw creativity and innovation high on the agenda. Advantage NI engaged the students in interactive exercises to demonstrate the basic principles of creative and innovative thinking. Students were then given the opportunity to develop ideas on a practical level. The event culminated in students pitching their idea to win over the support of the judges that their idea is the best of the group.

A group of students from the Brunswick St. campus stood out on the day after developing the winning ‘Big Idea!’ of a dating service specifically for students attending Belfast Metropolitan College. This would operate like a traffic light system with each colour indicating a student’s relationship status. For example, red signifies “not looking for love as in a relationship”, amber signifies “would consider dating” and finally green signifies “available”. It is hoped that this Big Idea could get like-minded students hooked up with a suitable significant other.

A HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO HAZELWOOD IS A BIG IDEA!

Students from the Belfast Education and Library Board gathered in the Grand Opera House recently to take part in the event that saw local students create Big Ideas that could improve their school in some way and at the same time be a commercially viable and sustainable enterprise.

Sixty students from Belfast and surrounding areas took part in the event that saw creativity and innovation high on the agenda. Bloomfield Collegiate College, Corpus Christi, St. Louise’s, Wellington College, Hazelwood College, Little Flower Girls’ School, St. Gemma’s High School, Glenloa Collegiate Bangor and Rockport School Craigavon were all in attendance. Advantage NI engaged the students in interactive exercises to demonstrate the basic principles of creative and innovative thinking. Students were then given the opportunity to develop ideas on a practical level. The event culminated in students pitching their idea to win over the support of the judges that their idea is the best of the group.

Hazelwood College, Newtownabbey stood out on the day after developing the winning ‘Big Idea!’ of designing ‘A Hitchhiker’s Guide to Hazelwood’ targeted at new students to the school with the aim to helping them settle into their new surroundings. The guide would offer students that vital information on Hazelwood that would help ease any anxiety that comes with starting a new school.

Students from Assumption Grammar, Abbey Christian Brothers’ Grammar and Sacred Heart Grammar took part in the event that saw creativity and innovation high on the agenda. Students were then given the opportunity to develop ideas on a practical level. The Sacred Heart College, Omagh flourished on the day after developing the winning ‘Big Idea!’ of creating a Conservation Area within the schools grounds that could not only be used for educational purposes, but could also be used to host seasonal flower festivals with all profits re-invested to enhance school activities

Rockport students gathered alongside sixty others in the Grand Opera House recently to take part in the event that saw students create Big Ideas that could improve their school in some way, and at the same time be a commercially viable and sustainable enterprise.
